Dr. Hwang is a board certified ophthalmologist and a Cornea, External Diseases and Refractive surgery specialist. Dr. Hwang is also an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, CT.
Dr. Hwang graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a major in Biochemistry and Cell Biology (B.S.), and received a Master of Science degree from Georgetown University. She earned her medical degree from the University at Buffalo and completed residency in Ophthalmology at Yale University. Dr. Hwang then completed her fellowship training in Cornea, External Diseases and Refractive Surgery at the world-renowned Doheny Eye Institute of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA.
In addition to being a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Hwang is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Hwang has received numerous honors and awards, including those from the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and from Yale University for “exemplifying the traits of dedication to the needs of others and devotion to family and profession.” Dr. Hwang has performed extensive research on corneal transplants and rare corneal infectious diseases.
Dr. Hwang speaks fluent Spanish and has volunteered her time and expertise to provide charitable medical services in New York, California, and Connecticut in addition to medical missions to Peru and South Korea. Dr. Hwang also offers her experience one day every week at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in West Haven, CT.
Dr. Hwang grew up in Southern California and has settled in Connecticut with her husband Rob, and their daughter Ava and son Joshua.
